Here's my story:

I began Jewels of the Trade in 2001 to combine a couple of my passions - fun, interesting jewelry, and the artwork of other cultures. I had been involved with the fair trade movement importing ethnic handicrafts for 6 years, and wanted to continue that with my own company. I began selling Chilean and Indonesian jewelry at local arts & crafts festivals, and also made my own beaded jewelry. I later found some pretty jewelry from India, and started importing that as well, and am always on the hunt for unique new things. All of my suppliers in these countries follow fair trade principles and guidelines in the production and pricing of their jewelry. Several are members of IFAT - the International Federation for Alternative Trade. I continue to sell through local festivals and started this website to extend my reach to the rest of the country. All products that you buy from me follow fair trade guidelines - the prices are fair to the consumer, and fair to the producing artisan. But most of all, they are fun and unusual designs!
